Where in the World is Belize you ask?

Belize (formerly British Honduras), is a country in Central America. Belize has a diverse society, composed of many cultures and speaking many languages. Although Kriol and Spanish are spoken among the population, Belize is the only country in Central America where English is the official language. It is bordered by Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the south and west, and the Caribbean sea to the east. With 8,867 square miles (22,960 km²) of territory and 320,000 people (2008 est.),[3] the population density is the lowest in the Central American region and one of the lowest in the world. However, the country's population growth rate, 2.21% (2008 est.),[3] is the highest in the region and one of the highest in the western hemisphere. Belize's abundance of biologically significant and unique ecosystems contribute to Mesoamerica's designation as a biodiversity hotspot.

Belize is culturally unique among Central American nations. It is the only nation in Central America with a British colonial heritage, and is the only constituent nation of the Commonwealth of Nations in its region. Culturally, Belize considers itself to be Central American but keeps ties to the Caribbean Islands.

Monday, December 21, my son, daughter-in-law and husband (me too!!) will be  flying to Belize.  I have visited Belize for a short time a few years back and loved it so much I have to bring my famiy back.  We'll be staying in Dangriga at the Almond Beach Resort.  The Canadian couple that own the property are the kindest, most hospitable & friendly people.

"The name Dangriga comes from a Garifuna word meaning ‘sweet water, ’ the town’s name having been changed from ‘Stann Creek Town’ in the 1980s. Dangriga is the birthplace of punta rock (a fusion of acoustic Garifuna and electric instruments), and is home to a number of notable Garifuna artists, artisans and festivals, not to mention Belize’s only Garifuna museum. With good access to both the central cayes and the Southern and Hummingbird Hwys, Dangriga is also an excellent place from which to launch nautical or jungle excursions."   (Lonely Planet)
